Typhoon Wipha Hits Vietnam with One Fatality Reported

(MENAFN) One person has died and four others were injured in Nghe An province, central Vietnam, after heavy rainfall and thunderstorms triggered by Typhoon Wipha, according to a newspaper on Monday.

The storm, Vietnam’s third tropical cyclone of the year, damaged 357 homes and flooded over 400 hectares of rice fields and other crops, the report noted.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has warned that Wipha is expected to strengthen by early Tuesday, with northern coastal regions likely to be affected.

State-controlled media reported that local authorities are urging residents to remain alert as the typhoon continues to approach land.

Local authorities are calling on residents to remain vigilant as the storm moves closer to the mainland, according to state-controlled media reports.
