Âsokan Generational Developments wins Indigenous Business Award of Distinction

Founded by Justin Bourque in 2023, the Indigenous-owned advisory firm has quickly established itself as a leader in advancing Indigenous economic participation and building stronger partnerships between Indigenous communities and industry. Since its inception, AGD has supported and facilitated nearly $3 billion in transactions, primarily across Alberta’s energy sector.

The Indigenous Business Award of Distinction recognizes an Indigenous-owned business that serves as a significant economic driver for First Nations, Métis or Inuit communities while investing in and advancing Indigenous economic participation and community-owned enterprises. Submissions are evaluated anonymously based on Indigenous ownership, economic impact and demonstrated progress toward reconciliation.

Since its founding, AGD has worked alongside more than 40 Indigenous communities across Alberta, helping communities and industry navigate complex partnerships, investment opportunities and major transactions. Through strategic advisory, transaction facilitation and partnership development, AGD has helped move Indigenous participation beyond consultation toward meaningful ownership, decision-making and long-term economic benefit.

The award comes during a period of continued growth and visibility for the company. Earlier this year, AGD launched its Bush to Boardroom podcast, creating a platform for conversations about Indigenous business, economic development and reconciliation, with its first episode featuring Chana Martineau. In June, Bourque participated in a national panel on Indigenous equity ownership at the Global Energy Show Canada. He also joined Indigenous and industry leaders at the Nation2Nation Forum to discuss the evolution of energy infrastructure development from conflict toward partnership.
